The Best Defense is a Good Offense

THE BEST DEFENSE IS A GOOD OFFENSE

This post was originally posted on the Youngevity blog and was written by Stacy Croninger

We’re still in the middle of flu season and in walks the Coronavirus (COVID-19), adding yet another virus to the mix–and this one’s no joke! Like any cold or flu season, knowing you have a strong defense will help you make the most of things. For most, you’ve helped your system by regularly taking your 90 For Life products, getting plenty of rest, moving your body, and eating a healthy, balanced diet. But there’s always more ways to be proactive.

Flattening the Curve

With most diseases or illnesses, there are curves involved. A steep curve that shows the large number of people that in a short time period get ill is not good. A flat curve that is spread across a larger time period is a good thing. The University of Michigan shared a graph for COVID-19 and explained that the way to keep the curve flat is to work as communities to minimize social contact. Or you might enjoy this one from Siouxsie Wiles and Toby Morris’s comic.Siouxsie Wiles and Toby Morris’s comic

Is this hard to do? You bet! It means cancelling events, working from home, setting up schools for online classes and much more. Definitely inconvenient, and often very disappointing. But compared to the people that we save from infection, definitely worth it. Dr. Markel, University of Michigan expert who has studied the effects of similar responses to past epidemics, said “Coronavirus is a socially transmitted disease, and we all have a social contract to stop it. What binds us is a microbe – but it also has the power to separate us. We’re a very small community, whether we acknowledge it or not, and this proves it. The time to act like a community is now.”

Home, Body, and On-the-Go Defense

Youngevity is here to help you create an effective defense that will help you defend your home and body, even when you’re on-the-go. We’ve created three special bundles, each with a specific purpose.

Home & Body Defense Pack: This all-encompassing pack includes EnviroMist® for use in your home and on-the-go. It also has Killer Biotic Fx®, which provides immune-enhancing benefits. Finally, Y-23 Immune™ Essential Oil, which can be diffused, inhaled, and in other uses to help support your lymphatic system.
On-the-Go Home & Body Defense Pack: This pack is perfect for those that want to disinfect their surroundings on the go as well as deodorize and sanitize any environment. Included are EnviroMist®, Killer Biotic Fx®, and two Essential Oils – Y-23 Immune™ and 1st Defense. These products all have specific uses that combine to create a healthier environment at home, in the office, or on-the-go.
Breathe Easy Defense Pack: This pack uses the powerful EnviroMist® system to sanitize and deodorize the air surrounding you and the surfaces you touch.

Keep Calm and Carry On

Times like these can be very stressful. There’s much that is unknown and whether you consider yourself a control freak or not, it’s hard not knowing what might happen.

So what’s the answer? Evaluate your personal situation and risks. Keep taking your Youngevity products. Find ways to bring joy into each day (try putting on your favorite happy song and dance like nobody is watching). And most importantly, remember you are not alone. We live in a time where technology helps us stay connected no matter if we live next door or in another country. So stay in touch with friends and family. And don’t let everything you read online add to your stress. Make sure the info is from a reputable source. And if all else fails, find people close by to have fun with, like this fitness instructor in Spain did.

Tips to Start Eating Healthier

This post was written by Rocio Ramos and was posted on the Youngevity Blog

A FEW CHANGES CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

As we begin to age, it’s important to make sure we’re eating healthy and partaking in healthy habits. For many, this may mean making pretty big changes to your diet and lifestyle. This can be difficult for individuals who have been following the same diet for decades. However, the reality is that as we age and our bodies changes, we need to adapt our diets to fit the needs of these changes.

EAT WHOLE FOODS, AVOID PROCESSED FOODS

First and foremost, you should always do your best to cook using real, whole foods and avoid processed foods as much as possible. You may ask, what designates a food as a processed food? One good guide can be found in “7 Ingredients Nutritionists Always Avoid” published on Yahoo! Health. It’s a great, basic guide to improving your food choices.

When looking at a food label, nutritionists ask you to avoid the following ingredients:
  1. Artificial Sweeteners – have been linked to increasing your risk for type 2 diabetes and increasing your calorie intake throughout the day.
  2. Carrageenan – a thickener found in dairy and milk products, whose safety is still unknown.
  3. Caramel Color – has been found as a carcinogen in animal testing.
  4. Trans Fats – artificial saturated fats that may increase your risk for heart disease.
  5. Sugar – known to increase your risk for several diseases, including obesity and heart disease.
  6. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) – known to be very high in sodium and may cause symptoms such as headaches, nausea, chest pain and many other healthy concerns.
  7. High-Fructose Corn Syrup – this sugar replacement, used in many processed foods, has been linked to obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and several other diseases.

The biggest thing when beginning to eat healthy and trying to remove foods from your diet is to read nutrition labels. If sugar is one of the top ingredients on a food label, you probably shouldn’t eat it. It may take some extra time, but going through the ingredients list on a food label is essential if you want to make sure you’re eating healthier.

In addition to eliminating processed foods from your diet, try adding Youngevity’s Ultimate Youth™ Green Super Food to your routine. It contains 46 powerful fruits and vegetables including wheat grass, spirulina, chlorella, dulse, blueberry and cranberry. This is an easy way to boost whole food intake and add greens to your diet. Remember, constant changes will be necessary, just do your best to make healthier choices to help your body thrive.

Protein Shake Comparison

I am someone who loves drinking protein shakes.  I especially love the ones from my gym, but I can't always be there (plus they can get pricey).  That being said, I looked up some at-home shakes and did a comparison.  I looked at the price per serving, flavors, calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fats.  Note that the nutrition information is just for the shake and does not include any milk or anything that you might add.  I also noted if the shake contains stevia or not.  Some shakes do as a way of lowering the sugar content, but I find that it often leaves an aftertaste, and thus I didn't want it in my shake.

Here are the data that I collected.

Slender FX
Price: $64.99 for 30 servings - $2.17 per serving
Flavors: Chocolate or Vanilla
Calories: 125   Protein: 14g    Carbs: 12g      Fat: 1g
Does not contain Stevia

Total Meal Replacement
Price: $68.99 for 30 servings - $2.30 per serving
Flavors: Chocolate or Vanilla
Calories: 200   Protein: 24g    Carbs: 12g      Fat: 5g
Does not contain Stevia

Complete
Price: $140 for 60 servings - $2.33 per serving
Flavors: Chocolate or Vanilla
Calories: 140   Protein: 13g    Carbs: 20g      Fat: 1g
Does not contain Stevia

Shakeology
Price: $129.95 for 30 servings - $4.33 per serving
Flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Greenberry, or Cafe` Late
Calories: 160   Protein: 17g    Carbs: 17g      Fat: 2.5g
Contains Stevia
Vegan options available

Formula 1
Price: $42.85 for 30 servings - $1.43 per serving
Flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, Banana Caramel, Cookies n' Cram, Dolce de Leche, Wild Berry, Cafe Latte, Mint Chocholate, Orange Cream, Praline and Cream and Pina Colada
Calories: 90   Protein: 9g    Carbs: 13g      Fat: 1g
Does not contain Stevia

Protein Drink
Price: $52.55 for 22 servings - $2.39 per serving
Flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, or Peanut
Calories: 110   Protein: 15g    Carbs: 5g      Fat: 3.5g
Does not contain Stevia

Isalean
Price: $55.99 for 14 servings - $4 per serving
Flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry Cream, Chocolate Mint, Peach Mango, Vanilla Chai, Birthday Cake, Strawberry
Calories: 240   Protein: 24g    Carbs: 24g      Fat: 6g
Contains Stevia

So, what did I come up with.  I think that the Youngevity Total Meal Replacement is going to be my next purchase.  It has a fairly low price per serving and the most protein (which is what I'm looking for).  Interestingly enough, this is one of two shakes on this list that I haven't actually tried.  My current go to in the Juice Plus Complete, but I'm looking for a change.  The Total Meal Replacement is a little cheaper and has 10g more of protein.  I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

What is your favorite at home protein shake?
